Momoks - Nightmare Monsters Part1

In our series, the Momoks are nightmare monsters used by Icela to terrify and control human dreamers. Every Momok is individually modified in Icela's workshop by Nodd and Druul to reinforce the deepest fears of that particular dreamer. When a dreamer is caught by the Momok Lasso, they begin to Dreamwalk. Almost every episode, we will introduce nicely designed momok and they are one of the highlight of the show. Coming weeks, we will be uploading more designs of the momoks from time to time. Stay tuned!

**Momok came from Indonesian word which means "an imaginary monster used to frighten children" We have borrowed the word from there when we were workning on the concept.

Best 3d Animation for Asia Image Apollo Awards 2013

 

 

Dream Defenders has won Best 3d Animation at the Asia Image Apollo Awards 2013 Presentation. Taking place on 18th June at the Marina Bay Sands held alongside BroadcastAsia.Out of 239 submissions received, 30 entries made the final cut after careful review by a panel of judges known for their extensive technical knowledge, critically acclaimed creativity, and years of experience in the media and entertainment industry. The results were tabulated and audited by international auditing firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

The Apollo Awards is an initiative aimed at honouring the best in Asia Pacific's production and post-production industries. With a jury that combines extensive technical knowledge, critically acclaimed creativity, and years of experience in the media and entertainment industry, this is the award for production and post-production artists in the Asia Pacific region.

Tiny Island's Dream Defenders Debuts on Hulu This Summer 2013!

Dream Defenders tells the incredible story of Zane and Zoey serving as the last line of defense between the real world and the Dreamworlds. Controlled by evil Icela, the nightmare monsters come to life and are threatening to break through to the real world! The 26 episode series is available on the free, ad-supported Hulu and Hulu Plus subscription service. 

The series follows the adventure of Zane and Zoey, 14-year-old twins who can travel into the Dreamworlds -- the realm where humans dream. Supercomputer ZEUS provides the means, the twins provide the courage. Only new school friends Tucker and Patel share Zoey and Zane's secret adventures. Evil forces in the Dreamworlds, Icela, Nodd & Druul, unleash Momoks, nightmare monsters to haunt our dreams and turn us into Dreamwalker zombies. Zane and Zoey must defeat the monsters in the Dreamworlds and, with Tucker and Patel's help, keep the chaos in the real world under control. 

The series is based on original concepts developed by Tiny Island Productions, Singapore's leading Stereoscopic 3D CG animation production company. It focuses on producing "Future Proof" content across multiple new platforms. The Los Angeles-based writing team was supervised by industry veterans Eric and Julia Lewald, who have been showrunners together or individually on 14 series, including X-Men: The Animated Series and Young Hercules. The series made its first debut in the United States on 3net, the joint venture 24/7 3D Network from Sony, Discovery and IMAX, the world's first dedicated kids 3D programming block in September 2011.

Available this summer to U.S. audiences on Hulu and Hulu Plus, viewers get the opportunity to participate in the "Momok (Nightmare Monsters) Design Competition" where winners will bring home 3d glasses free tablets. They will be the first few in the world to experience Dream Defenders 'flying out' from these 3D tablets without having to put on any 3D glasses. Viewers will also get to participate in a lucky draw with the top prize of return air tickets and a hotel stay on sunny and beautiful Singapore where they can get the chance to visit the animation studio behind the production as well as visit the Dream Defenders Exhibition. M.I.S.T.-ERY The Three Parter - 3Part Original Story

When the MERCER FAMILY move into meridian, ZANE and ZOEY's parents said it would be like embarking on a new adventure. But while going to school and making new friends was fun, it is what they discover in their new home that really excites them. Hidden in the attic is a super-computer called ZEUS, who introduces them to the DREAMWORLDS: the place where human minds go to when they dream. At the same time, a growing number of Meridian's citizens have started wandering about in a zombiefied daze, and its not long before Zoey starts behaving strangely. Is there a connection between this and the Dreamworlds?

Zane races against time to rescue Zoey, as Zeus reveals that the cause behind Zoey's strange behaviour, and those of Meridian's zombiefied citizens. Zoey is being trapped in a DREAMWALKING state because her dream-self, her DREAMER, had been captured by a monster (MOMOK) under the command of the DREAMWORLD's imperious queen ICELA (and her assistants Nodd and Drull). To save his sister, Zane will have to enter Zoey's dream and free her from the MOMOK. Zeus gives Zane a high-tech NEURAL-SUIT fitted with advanced weapons, but that alone might not be enough to help him defeat the MOMOK.

DR MERCER, Zane and Zoey's father, has found the research notes and secret laboratory of the missing DR DAEDELUS, the first human to consciously enter the DREAMWORLDS and also the creator of ZEUS. Dr Daedelus had actually been trapped in the Dreamworlds by Icela who wants to know how he could move between the two worlds. When Dr Daedelus refused to reveal the secret, she captures Dr Mercer's DREAMER and tricks him into helping her instead. Zane and Zoey must re-enter the Dreamworlds, rescue ther father and Dr Daedelus, and prevent Icela from invading the real world; all the while keeping anyone from finding out about Zeus and their activities as DREAM DEFENDERS.

#17 NODD & DRUUL 2.0 – ICELA finally looses patience with bumbling engineers NODD & DRUUL. She replaces them with a haughty new team, DRIBBLE & SNOOZE. Their first target is Zane & Zoey’s history teacher, MR. CARTER. When ZAND & ZOEY go in to rescue Mr. Carter’s dream self, the new engineers capture them. Imprisoned, the twins bump into the now-disgraced former engineers, Nodd & Druul, who have been demoted to prison janitors. The twins convince their old nemeses that if they work together, they can discredit the new team. It works – Zane and Zoey escape and save their teacher, while Nodd & Druul get their jobs back.

#18 BIG MAN ON CAMPUS – When CHAD – a new student with a reputation as a bully – transfers to Meridian High, there’s mass panic: Chad is huge, and all the boys are scared of him. His mere presence sets off a rash of nightmares populated with BULLY-MOMOKS. Only ZOEY tries to get to know Chad. She alone learns the truth: Everybody has been assuming Chad’s a bully, but he’s really quiet & good-natured – other kids just pick fights with him to prove they’re tough. When ICELA exploits the rampant paranoia and uses a zombified Dreamwalking Chad to terrorize Meridian High, it’s up to ZANE & Zoey to set things right.

#19 FEARLESS – NODD AND DRUUL are stunned to discover a human Dreamer (dream self) that they cannot scare with a monster. ICELA is shaken by the news – what extraordinary human can live without fear? It’s STEPH – spacey friend of VI and ZOEY, whose off-center, wacky, illogical imagination has made her nightmare-proof! The Dreamworlds can’t use her mind against her because Steph’s mind interprets its dream images in such strange, unexpected ways. This news hits at the very core of Icela’s existence: she and her people live to scare humans in their nightmares. Icela has Nodd & Druul grab Steph’s Dreamer (with well-known Momok “THE DEPRIVATOR”) and they work to find her secret. Zane and Zoey have to come to the rescue Steph’s Dreamer – who has struck up an unlikely friendship with Druul.

#20 HI, DAD – ZEUS locates DR. DAEDELUS while scanning the Dreamworlds. Zeus is thrilled: Dr. D made him, and he thought he’d never see him again! When Zeus explains his find to ZANE AND ZOEY, he realizes that this could be an ICELA trap. The twins know how much his “father” means to Zeus, so Zane and Zoey go to the Dreamworlds anyway to try to save him. But it was an Icela trap, and the twins end up stranded along with Dr. D. Zeus has to recruit TUCKER and PATEL to help him rescue Zane, Zoey, and Dr. D. In the end, Dr. D sacrifices his escape and remains in the Dreamworlds, captive, to give the twins a chance to escape.

#21 FAMILY BUSINESS – When DR. MERCER’s father comes to spend a little “quality time” with his grandkids, ZANE AND ZOEY uncover family secrets – in both the real world and the Dreamworlds. GRANDPA, once a stage magician and hypnotist, has unwittingly found a passageway into Icela’s Dreamworlds domain, and she wants his secret at all costs.

#23 EXO-ICELA BREAKS THROUGH – Engineers Nodd & Druul have come up with an EXO-SKELETON SUIT (like Siguorney Weaver wore in ALIENS) from which she can remote-control Momok monsters -- speaking and seeing through them. She tries it out with her favorite Momok, THE DEPRIVATOR. When Zane and Zoey travel to Dreamworlds to fight the Momok, Icela shows some serious moves. And when Zane and Zoey try to transport back, The Deprivator grabs Zane’s hand – and it and Zane and Zoey transport back to the real world. So the Deprivator is loose in Meridian, with Icela in her Exo-suit controlling it (and seeing, in imperfect tunnel vision, what the Deprivator sees). Zane and Zoey must stop The Deprivator and either destroy it or send it back.

#24 DANCING WITH THE ‘80s – When ZANE AND ZOEY and the rest of their freshman class (TUCKER, PATEL, VI, STEPH, etc.) have a “retro 1980s” dance party at Dave’s Diner, there’s a surprise zombified Dreamwalker turning things upside down – one of the school staff chaperones, the normally reserved MS. BUNSEN. As various student relationships play out during the dance party, Zane and Zoey have to travel to Dreamworlds to discover why a horrifying Disco-Momok has snagged Ms. Bunsen’s Dreamer (who appears 14-years-old in her dream) and what personal trauma led her to be at its mercy.
